When was grape jelly invented?

The earliest documentation mentioning grape jelly is a handwritten receipt from Thomas Jefferson when he went shopping in 1771 as secretary of State while living in Paris after a failed attempt to negotiate diplomatic trade with Portugal. According to the written receipts from his shopping, he visited a grocer "Rue Grenelle a St Germain" and purchased “5 Pots Raisin Gelly”. Later in Jefferson’s life as president, he requested and personally supervised improvements in grape cultivation from vineyards.
