Why are sandwiches called when they have sand in them?
Sandwiches are not called sandwiches when there is sand in them. This is a misconception. The term "sandwich" comes from John Montagu, the 4th Earl of Sandwich, who was an avid gambler. It is said that he would order his servants to bring him meat between two pieces of bread so that he could continue gambling without having to stop for a meal.
