Why maraschino cherries have pits?
Maraschino cherries do not have pits. They are made from a variety of cherries, the most common of which is the Royal Anne cherry. The cherries are preserved in a sugar syrup, which helps to keep them firm. The pits are removed before the cherries are preserved.
