What do tamandua eat?

Termites and Ants

- Tamandua primarily feed on ants and termites, which they obtain by breaking open their mounds with their forelimbs. Their specialized claws are designed for ripping into these mounds.

- They insert their 16-inch-long (40.6-centimeter) tongue up into the tunnels and nests to lap up the ants and termites. Their sticky saliva helps them capture and swallow their prey.

- Tamandua may also eat other insects, including larvae and beetles.

- Some species have also been known to consume small reptiles, birds, fruits, and honey.
