It depends on the type of rice and the cooking method you are using.
For long-grain white rice, the general ratio is 1 cup of rice to 1.5 cups of water. You should not drain the water after cooking.
For medium-grain white rice, the ratio is 1 cup of rice to 1.25 cups of water. Again, you should not drain the water.
For short-grain white rice, the ratio is 1 cup of rice to 1 cup of water. You can either drain the water or let the rice sit in the water for a few minutes before serving.
For brown rice, the ratio is 1 cup of rice to 2 cups of water. You should not drain the water after cooking.
