How do you get candle wax out of a drain?
To remove candle wax from a clogged drain, follow these steps:
Boil water. Bring a pot of water to a boil. Remove from heat and let it cool for a few minutes so it's still very hot but not boiling.
Pour hot water down the drain. Slowly pour the hot water into the drain, allowing it to sit there for several minutes.
Add dish soap. Add several squirts of dish soap to the drain and let it sit there for a few more minutes.
Use a plunger. Place the cup of the plunger over the drain and push and pull the plunger up and down to create pressure and suck the wax out of the drain. Repeat until the hot water and dish soap drain out.
Repeat as necessary. This method may have to be repeated multiple times to completely dissolve and remove all the wax.
For a stubborn waxy clog:
Use a chemical drain cleaner. Once you've tried the above, a chemical drain cleaner may be the next option. Be sure to use one that's safe for use on plastic pipes. Follow the instructions on the product label carefully.
Call a plumber. If the wax clog is still there, you may need to call a plumber to have the drain professionally cleared.
