Is it OK for a religious Muslim to professionally taste wine and spit out?
According to Islamic dietary laws, the consumption of alcohol is strictly prohibited. This prohibition includes the consumption of any alcoholic beverages, including wine. Therefore, it would not be permissible for a religious Muslim to professionally taste wine, even if they were to spit it out.
The prohibition against alcohol is based on several passages in the Quran, the holy book of Islam. For example, verse 5 of Surah al-Ma'idah states: "O you who have believed, intoxicants and gambling, [sacrificing on] stone alters [to other than Allah], and divining arrows are but defilement from the work of Satan, so avoid it that you may be successful."
In addition to the Quran, the prohibition against alcohol is also supported by the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). In a hadith narrated by Abu Dawud, the Prophet said: "Every intoxicant is forbidden."
Therefore, it is clear that the consumption of alcohol, even in small quantities or for professional reasons, is not permissible for a religious Muslim.
