How long does turkey keep?
The storage time for cooked or leftover turkey will depend on the storage method and temperature. Here are the general guidelines for refrigerating and freezing raw and cooked turkey:
Raw Turkey:
- Refrigerator (40 °F or lower): Up to 2 days
- Freezer (0°F or lower): Up to 1 year (For best quality, consume within 6-9 months)
Cooked Turkey:
- Refrigerator (40 °F or lower): Up to 3-4 days
- Freezer (0°F or lower): Up to 2-6 months (For best quality, consume within 2-3 months)
Always ensure the turkey is properly covered or sealed in airtight containers or freezer bags to prevent freezer burn. When reheating cooked turkey, make sure to bring it to an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C) as measured by a food thermometer to ensure food safety.
