How long is sushi safe in the fridge for?
Sushi, especially homemade sushi, is not recommended to be stored in the fridge for more than 24 hours. Here's why:
* Bacteria growth: Even though the rice is cooked, it can still harbor bacteria. The longer it sits in the fridge, the more time bacteria have to multiply.
* Texture change: The rice will become dry and hard as it absorbs moisture from the fridge.
* Fish safety: Raw fish is particularly susceptible to spoilage. While refrigeration slows down the process, it doesn't stop it entirely.
Here are some guidelines for storing sushi:
* Best: Eat sushi within 2 hours of preparation, especially if it contains raw fish.
* Refrigerated: Store sushi in the refrigerator for a maximum of 24 hours.
* Freezing: Freezing sushi is not recommended, as the texture will be negatively affected.
Important Note: If you're unsure about the safety of your sushi, it's always better to err on the side of caution and throw it away.
