How to Make a Quiche:
Ingredients:
* Crust:
* 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
* 1/2 teaspoon salt
* 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, chilled and cut into small pieces
* 1/4 cup ice water
* Filling:
* 6 large eggs
* 1 cup heavy cream
* 1/2 cup milk
* 1/2 teaspoon salt
* 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
* 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
* 1 cup cooked and diced vegetables (e.g., spinach, mushrooms, broccoli, onions)
* 1/2 cup shredded cheese (e.g., cheddar, Swiss, Gruyère)
Instructions:
1. Make the Crust:
* In a large bowl, whisk together flour and salt.
* Cut in the butter using a pastry cutter or your fingers until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
* Gradually add ice water, 1 tablespoon at a time, mixing until dough just comes together.
* Form dough into a disc, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
2. Prepare the Filling:
* Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
* In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, heavy cream, milk, salt, and pepper.
* Stir in Parmesan cheese, cooked vegetables, and shredded cheese.
3. Assemble the Quiche:
* Roll out dough on a lightly floured surface to a 12-inch circle.
* Transfer dough to a 9-inch pie plate, pressing it into the bottom and up the sides. Trim any excess dough.
* Prick the bottom of the crust with a fork.
* Pour the filling into the crust.
4. Bake the Quiche:
* Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until the filling is set and lightly browned.
* Let the quiche cool slightly before slicing and serving.
Tips:
* You can use store-bought pie crust for convenience.
* Feel free to customize your fillings with your favorite ingredients.
* If using leafy greens, sauté them until wilted before adding to the filling.
* To ensure a perfectly golden crust, you can brush it with an egg wash (1 egg yolk beaten with 1 tablespoon of milk) before baking.
* If you want a more savory flavor, you can add a tablespoon of Dijon mustard to the filling.
* Serve your quiche warm or at room temperature.
