What did Chickens evolve from?
The ancestors of modern chickens are thought to be jungle fowl, which are still found in Southeast Asia today. Jungle fowl are small, wild birds that live in flocks and feed on seeds, insects, and fruits. They are known for their loud calls, which are used to communicate with each other.
Over time, jungle fowl were domesticated and spread to other parts of the world. Through selective breeding, humans have developed hundreds of different breeds of chickens, each with its own unique characteristics. Today, chickens are one of the most common domesticated animals in the world and are raised for their meat, eggs, and feathers.
