How Do I Get a Turkey Brown in a Roaster? (5 Steps)
Whether you define a roaster as a special type of pan you use in your oven or a countertop appliance, both involve the same process for getting a turkey brown. Either will roast the turkey until done without any help from the cook, but achieving that perfect brown, crispy skin takes a bit of intervention.
Things You'll Need
- Roaster pan or roaster oven
- Cooking rack
- Aluminum foil
- Meat thermometer
Instructions
-
Preheat the oven or roaster oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit.
-
Place a baking or cooking rack in the bottom of the roaster pan or roaster oven. Many pans and ovens include a baking rack with the purchase.
-
Tent the turkey with a large sheet of aluminum foil. Insert an oven-safe meat thermometer through the foil, into the thickest part of the turkey breast.
-
Roast the turkey in the oven or roaster until the thermometer registers 175 degrees Fahrenheit. This will take between 20 and 25 minutes per pound of turkey.
-
Remove the foil from the turkey and allow the turkey to brown until the thermometer reads 185 degrees Fahrenheit. This can take from 30 minutes to one hour.
