How to Wash Chicken With Vinegar (4 Steps)
Many cooks clean off chickens with water and vinegar to remove dirt, germs and other debris. Raw chicken naturally contains bacteria, including salmonella, a bacteria that causes illness in humans. Washing the chicken removes some of the germs. The only way to ensure the bacteria are dead is to cook it thoroughly, according to Real Simple. White distilled vinegar kills bacteria. While it's not necessary to wash the chicken, it's a common practice.
Things You'll Need
- Deep bowl
- Rubber gloves
Instructions
-
Fill a bowl half way with warm water. Pour two cups of white distilled vinegar into the bowl.
-
Put on the rubber gloves. The gloves protect your hands from bacteria on the chicken. The germs can get underneath fingernails and in small cuts if your hands aren't covered.
-
Dunk the chicken into the water and vinegar. Rub the water over the chicken for 10 minutes. You can also leave it soaking in the bowl for 10 minutes, rotate the chicken and soak it for another 10 minutes.
-
Place the chicken inside of a pan to cook. Dump out the water and vinegar into a sink. Wash the bowl with hot soapy water. Washing the gloves in the water. Clean your hands with antibacterial hand soap.
