How did spaghetti get its name?
The word "spaghetti" comes from the Italian word "spaghe" which is the plural of "spaghetto," meaning "little string." This refers to the long, thin strands that make up this iconic pasta dish.
It's thought that "spaghe" was first used in the 14th century to describe a kind of long, thin noodle. While the exact origin of the dish itself is unclear, it is believed to have been developed in Southern Italy sometime before that.
So, the name "spaghetti" is a straightforward description of its physical appearance - long, thin strings of pasta.
