Cooking Scramble Burgers (6 Steps)
Cooking ground beef for scrambled burgers offers possibilities that are as limitless as your own imagination. You can stick with plain crumbles, adding salt and pepper to taste, or you can vary the scramble with vegetables, mushrooms, gravies, sauces and even eggs. Start with a basic scramble seasoned with a little sautéed onion, whose flavor won't interfere with any other ingredients, and have the rolls ready as well as sliced or shredded cheese and whatever condiments you would put on any other burger. Scrambling the ground beef lets you add flavorings and ingredients that wouldn't be possible if making it into patties.
Things You'll Need
- Large heavy skillet
- Wooden spatula
- Cooking oil or pan spray
- Additional ingredients of your choice
- Strainer
- Paper towels
- Hand soap
- Hot water
Instructions
-
Preheat skillet over medium heat and prepare all other ingredients before handling the raw ground beef.
-
Place small amount of vegetable, canola or olive oil in pan or coat pan lightly with cooking spray. Add finely chopped onion to pan and sauté until just tender, which should take about two to three minutes.
-
Break ground beef into small pieces and scatter evenly on top of the sautéed onions. Wash hands thoroughly with soap and hot water to prevent the spread of foodborne contaminants.
-
Use the wooden spatula to break the pieces down even more as they cook. Cook and stir the meat until it loses all of its pink color and is completely browned. Season to taste and stir again to completely blend in the seasonings.
-
Place meat and onions in strainer to drain all the fat. Spread on several thicknesses of paper towels and pat with more paper towels to remove as much fat as possible.
-
Return meat to pan, place over low to medium heat and stir until hot. Serve immediately on hamburger buns or add other ingredients of your choice, such as tomato sauce, beef gravy or mushrooms. Heat mixture until bubbling, remove from heat and serve.
