How to Cook a Boneless Ham on a Rotisserie

If you're looking for a nearly foolproof method to prepare a moist, flavorful boneless ham, consider cooking it on a rotisserie. Indoor, electric rotisseries come in a variety of sizes, are typically user-friendly. As an added bonus, since the meat slowly rotates as it cooks, it heats evenly and self-bastes. This prevents the ham from drying out, while also creating a deliciously crunchy exterior.

Things You'll Need

  • Baster or basting brush
  • Glaze or sauce
  • Meat thermometer
  • Carving board
  • Aluminum foil
  • Sharp knife

Instructions

  1. Remove the rotisserie rod or spit from the inside of the rotisserie oven. Set the temperature of your rotisserie to 450 degrees Fahrenheit. Allow the oven to preheat for about 10 to 15 minutes.

  2. Prepare the ham by trimming any excess fat. Lightly brush it with the sauce or glaze of your choosing. You can use your favorite barbecue sauce, or make your own by simmering a mixture of bold ingredients like apricot preserves, ginger, garlic, mustard and bourbon until it's thickened. Another option is to simmer cranberry juice, cinnamon sticks and light brown sugar together for a festive glaze.

  3. Put the ham on the spit rod assembly. Make sure that it’s centered before inserting the rod assembly back into the oven, to ensure that the ham cooks evenly. Place the rotisserie's drip pan in its place.

  4. Let the ham roast for roughly 15 minutes at 450 F, before lowering the temperature to 325 F. Cook the ham until a meat thermometer reads 160 F, usually 13 to 15 minutes per pound.

  5. Transfer your ham from the rotisserie to a carving board. Loosely tent the ham with foil, and let it rest for about 10 minutes before carving and serving it.
