Baby Back Ribs: Boiled & Grilled for Tenderness and Smoke
This recipe combines the tenderness of boiling with the smoky flavor of grilling for the perfect baby back ribs.
Ingredients:
* 2 racks of baby back ribs (about 3 pounds total)
* 1 onion, quartered
* 2 carrots, cut into chunks
* 1 celery stalk, cut into chunks
* 1 cup chicken broth
* 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
* 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
* 1 teaspoon salt
* 1 teaspoon black pepper
* 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
* 1/4 teaspoon paprika
* Your favorite barbecue sauce for basting
Instructions:
1. Prepare the Ribs:
* Optional: Remove the membrane from the back of the ribs. You can use a butter knife to loosen it and then pull it off.
* Season: Rub the ribs with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika.
2. Boil the Ribs:
* Combine: In a large pot, combine the onion, carrots, celery, chicken broth, apple cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika.
* Add Ribs: Place the seasoned ribs in the pot. Make sure they are submerged in the liquid.
* Boil & Simmer: Bring the mixture to a boil over high heat, then reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 2-3 hours, or until the ribs are very tender.
3. Grill the Ribs:
* Preheat Grill: Preheat your grill to medium-high heat.
* Remove Ribs: Carefully remove the ribs from the pot and pat them dry with paper towels.
* Grill: Place the ribs on the grill and cook for about 15-20 minutes, turning every 5 minutes, until they are nicely browned and slightly crispy.
* Baste: While grilling, brush the ribs liberally with your favorite barbecue sauce.
4. Serve:
* Let the ribs rest for 5-10 minutes before serving.
* Enjoy your tender, smoky, and flavorful baby back ribs!
Tips:
* For extra flavor, add a few bay leaves to the boiling liquid.
* If you don't have a grill, you can finish the ribs in a preheated oven at 350°F for 15-20 minutes.
* You can also add a dry rub to the ribs before grilling for extra flavor.
* Serve the ribs with your favorite sides, such as coleslaw, potato salad, or baked beans.
Enjoy your delicious ribs!
