Do you have to rinse gravel before put it in a fish tank?
Yes, it is very important to rinse the gravel thoroughly before putting it in the fish tank. Gravel from a store might have dirt, dust, or other debris on the surface. If this is added to the tank without being rinsed, it could cloud the water and make it difficult for the fish to see and breathe. Rinsing the gravel also helps to remove any sharp edges that could potentially damage the fish's fins or gills.
To rinse the gravel, simply place it in a large container and fill it with water. Use your hands to stir the gravel around and swish the water back and forth. Pour off the dirty water and repeat the process until the water is clear. Once the gravel is clean, you can add it to your fish tank.
