How do you tell if your fish is pregnant?

There are a few ways to tell whether a fish is pregnant:

1. Look for a gravid spot: The gravid spot is a dark, vertical mark on the underside of the fish's belly, right in front of the anal fin. It's most visible in live-bearer species and appears approximately two weeks before the female is ready to give birth.

2. Check the size and shape of the female's belly: As the fish's eggs mature, her belly will swell. This swelling is most noticeable in the lower part of the belly. The female may also have a slightly rounded appearance overall.

3. Observe the female's behavior: Pregnant fish may become more lethargic and hide more often than usual. They may also lose interest in food. Additionally, they may start to search for a suitable spot to lay their eggs, such as plants, rocks, or substrate.

4. Look for fry: If the female has given birth, you may see small, free-swimming fish, known as fry, in the aquarium. Fry typically look much smaller and different than adult fish. Some fish species give live birth, while others lay eggs that hatch after some time.
