Will my duck sit on eggs if the are laid concrete right by our front door?

It is unlikely that your duck will sit on eggs laid on concrete by your front door. Ducks prefer to nest in secluded and safe locations that provide protection for their eggs and ducklings. Here are a few reasons why your duck may not sit on eggs in this location:

Lack of privacy: Ducks generally seek locations that offer privacy and protection from predators when nesting. Your front door area is likely a high-traffic area, which could make your duck feel exposed and vulnerable.

Exposure to elements: Ducks prefer nesting sites that provide shelter from the sun, wind, and rain. Concrete is a reflective and heat-conductive material that can become hot under direct sunlight, making it uncomfortable for your duck to sit on her eggs.

Inadequate nesting material: Ducks typically collect nesting materials like straw, leaves, and feathers to create a comfortable nest for their eggs. Concrete does not provide any suitable nesting material for your duck.

Alternative nesting sites: If your duck has access to other more suitable nesting locations, such as a nesting box or a secluded spot in your garden, she may choose those over the eggs laid on concrete by your front door.

To encourage your duck to lay and incubate her eggs in a more appropriate location, you can provide a nesting box or a secluded spot with soft nesting materials. You can also try to discourage her from laying eggs near your front door by removing the eggs and placing them in a more suitable nesting location.
