How long can raw chicken sit in the fridge?
The length of time raw chicken can safely be stored in the fridge depends on factors like the temperature of the fridge, quality of the meat, and type of cut. Here's a general guide:
Whole Chicken: Up to 2 days
Chicken Parts (breasts, thighs, wings, drumsticks): Up to 2 days
Ground Chicken: Up to 1 day
It's always a good idea to follow "use by" or "sell by" dates on the package as they provide the most accurate information based on the specific product and storage conditions. If you're unsure, it's better to cook or freeze the chicken sooner rather than later.
To ensure safety, make sure the fridge is at a consistent temperature of 40°F (4°C) or below. Raw meat should be stored on the bottom shelf of the fridge, covered or in an airtight container, to avoid any potential cross-contamination.
