How to Get Juicy Chicken Cooked in the Oven (14 Steps)
If you want to cook juicy chicken, then try baking it in your oven. Coating the chicken with a sauce or seasoning creates a crust that helps to lock in the chicken’s juices. Another important aspect when baking juicy chicken requires ensuring that the chicken pieces do not touch each other by placing them on a cooking rack. The rack allows the heat to cook the chicken evenly, and it prevents the chicken from sitting in its own juices.
Things You'll Need
- 2 tbsp. dried savory
- 1 tbsp. dry mustard
- 2 ½ tsp. onion powder
- 1 ¾ curry powder
- 1 ¼ tsp. ground cumin
- 1 tsp. poultry seasoning
- Plastic bags
- 1 cup bread crumbs
- 3-lb. fryer chicken
- Sharp knife
- Paper towels
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- Large bowl
- 1/3 cup milk
- 1 egg
- Baking sheet
- Plastic wrap
- Wire rack
- Shallow baking pan
Instructions
-
Mix the seasonings together in a bowl. Combine the savory, dry mustard, curry powder, ground cumin and poultry seasoning until mixed well. Place these ingredients in a plastic bag.
-
Add 1 cup of breadcrumbs to the bag. Sit this off to the side.
-
Cut the chicken into 8 pieces. You will need to separate the breasts, legs, thighs and wings. Remove the skin and large areas of excess fat.
-
Rinse the chicken under cold water. Pat your fryer chicken dry with paper towels.
-
Add the flour in a separate plastic bag. Place this off to the side.
-
Place the milk and egg in a large bowl. Whisk these ingredients together.
-
Sit the chicken in the bag filled with flour. Shake the bag to coat the chicken.
-
Dip the chicken into the milk mixture, then place the chicken into the seasoning bag. Shake the bag until you cover each piece of chicken with seasonings and breadcrumbs.
-
Place the chicken on a baking sheet. Cover the sheet with plastic wrap and refrigerate the chicken for one hour.
-
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. When the chicken finishes in the refrigerator, place a wire rack in a large shallow baking pan.
-
Add the chicken pieces to the wire rack. Space the chicken apart to ensure that the pieces are not touching each other.
-
Bake the chicken for 45 to 50 minutes. While the chicken bakes, do not turn disrupt it by opening the oven or turning the chicken over.
-
Check the temperature of the chicken. Place a meat thermometer in the thickest part of the chicken without touching the bone. The chicken needs to reach an internal temperature of 165 degrees.
-
Allow the chicken to cool for 10 minutes. You can now serve the juicy chicken.
