How to Fry Chicken Legs Using a Turkey Fryer (5 Steps)
A turkey fryer is a large deep fryer designed to cook an entire turkey, but these can also be used for any food that you want deep fried. Caution should always be used with any frying method, however. For optimum safety, use the fryer outside on a non-flammable surface, such as a driveway.
Things You'll Need
- Frying thermometer
- Peanut oil
- Marinade (optional)
- Marinade injector (optional)
- Long handled tongs
- Meat thermometer
Instructions
-
Fill the fryer half way with peanut oil and light the burner beneath.
-
Heat the oil until a frying thermometer registers 350 degrees F. This can take up to one hour, depending on outdoor conditions. Fill a marinade injector and inject the chicken legs with internal flavoring, if you'd like. You can also add spices, coatings or batter to the chicken legs.
-
Lower the prepared chicken legs into the hot oil with the long handled tongs. Stand back as far as possible when inserting or removing the chicken from the oil.
-
Adjust the heat on the burner beneath the fryer to maintain an oil temperature of 350 degrees F.
-
Cook the chicken legs for 9 minutes per pound of legs or until the a meat thermometer inserted into the leg reads 180 degrees F.
