What are your options for placing a napkin in setting the table?
1. Left and parallel to the dinner plate. This classic placement leaves plenty of room for the other silverware and dishes, and ensures the napkin will be within easy reach.
2. Below the forks to the left of the plate. Another traditional option, this placement looks formal and elegant. Use this placement if you have limited table space and/or your plates and silverware are smaller in size.
3. Folded in half and placed over the plate. For more formal settings, fold the napkin in half and into a simple rectangular shape and then place it on top of the salad plate (when present) or directly on top of the dinner plate.
4. Centered directly above the plate. This casual placement is perfect for informal gatherings and picnics. You can either fold or roll the napkin.
5. Centered directly above the plate and in the silverware wrap. Simply fold the napkin into thirds lengthwise, then in thirds again, forming a rectangle about the size of a table knife. Place it inside the silverware wrap above the plate.
6. Under the charger plate. A unique and stylish way to set the table, especially for formal occasions. Fold your napkin into a triangle, square or rectangle and put it under the charger plate.
