How to Keep Tea From Becoming Cloudy
Those who brew tea at home hope to achieve the clear, light to dark brown color of commercially brewed tea. However, tea often becomes cloudy after heating, whether it is then served hot or cold. This especially is an issue with a traditional favorite, iced tea. Cloudy tea is unappetizing. But, this problem can be prevented by following several guidelines when preparing it.
Things You'll Need
- 1 quart spring water
- 5 teabags
- Saucepan
- Cold water or ice cubes (optional)
- Large pitcher
Instructions
-
Pour water in to the saucepan.
-
Place the teabags on the top of the water in the saucepan, pressing them slightly down to saturate them.
-
Bring tea mixture in saucepan to a temperature just below boiling over medium heat on the stove.
-
Maintain temperature of tea in saucepan for 10 to 15 minutes, making sure the water does not boil.
-
Remove the tea from the heat and take out the teabags.
-
Allow the tea to slowly cool. If there is a sudden change in temperature, the tea often will often become cloudy.
-
Pour ice cubes or amount of cold water desired in to the tea after cooling the tea. Place it in the refrigerator until ready to serve.
