How to Make Drinks With Margarita Mix (4 Steps)
Margaritas are the perfect summertime cocktail, combining the spicy bite of tequila with cool, tart lime. The cocktail was invented in the 1940s in Mexico as a more refined way to drink tequila, instead of the traditional shot accompanied by salt and lime. Margarita mixes are available in most liquor stores and are an easy way to get bar-quality cocktails in your own home.
Things You'll Need
- Lime
- Coarse salt
- 1 1/2 oz. tequila
- 1/2 oz. triple sec (optional)
- 3 oz. margarita mix
- Ice
Instructions
-
Rub the lime wedge around the edges of a rocks glass or a cocktail glass. Turn the glass upside down and dip onto a plate of coarse salt.
-
Pour tequila, triple sec (optional) and margarita drink mix into a cocktail shaker over a handful of ice. Shake vigorously to release the flavors, and strain into the salt-rimmed glass to serve your margarita "up." If you don't own a cocktail shaker, you can use two cups instead. Be extra cautious to prevent any spills, however. If you prefer your margaritas on the rocks, pour the ice into the glass along with the mixed margarita.
-
If you prefer a frozen margarita, add the the tequila, triple sec, margarita mix and ice to a blender. Blend until the ice is evenly distributed, creating a slush-like drink. Pour the frozen margarita into the salt-rimmed glass.
-
Garnish the glass with a wedge of lime and serve immediately.
