How to Make Coffee Bags (8 Steps)

Popular in many stores, single-serve coffee bags make it easy to enjoy a cup of coffee when you do not feel like brewing a whole pot. Since the bags themselves are pricey, you can make your own to save money and enjoy the convenience. Coffee bags are also nice to have on hands for guests if you do not own a coffee pot. Fortunately, making your own coffee bags does not require many materials, and will not take much time out of your day.

Things You'll Need

  • Tea bags
  • Stapler
  • Coffee
  • Cheesecloth
  • Ruler
  • Scissors
  • Cotton string

Use Tea Bags

  1. Open the tea bags carefully, then remove the tea and store it in a container. You can use a tea ball to brew it at a later date. Use a staple remover to take out the staples or purchase empty tea bags in a department stores.

  2. Add 1 tbsp. of coffee to a teabag.

  3. Staple the tea bag shut. Place the bag in a coffee mug and pour hot water over it. Allow the coffee to steep for 2 to 3 minutes.

Use Cheese Cloth

  1. Measure an 8-inch square on several cheesecloths. Each square will make one coffee bag.

  2. Cut the squares out and lay them on a flat surface.

  3. Add 1 to 2 tbsp. of coffee to each square. Place it near the top-center edge of the cheesecloth.

  4. Roll the cheesecloth into a tubular shape, like a cigar, making sure you keep all the coffee inside.

  5. Tie the two ends together, then tie a 12-inch piece of cotton string around one end of the rolled cheesecloth and attach the other end of the string to the other side of the coffee bag. Secure the string in place by tying knots. Store the coffee bags in an airtight container.
