How to Plumb a Keurig Brewing System

Keurig brewing systems provide a great solution for home or office when brewing large amounts of coffee is the goal. Refilling brewing systems that produce this kind of volume can be a hassle, so they can be converted or "plumbed" to accept an automatic water supply. Many Keurig brewing systems come "plumb-in," which means they are ready to be connected to an automatic water supply. Those that do not can be plumbed fairly easily using the right equipment and technique.

  • Keurig direct plumb kit
  • Screwdriver

Instructions

  1. Disconnect the brewing system from AC power and drain the hot water tank. The tank contains about 31 oz. of water.

  2. Remove the cold water tank, generally located on the side of the brewing system.

  3. Turn the brewing system on its side and remove the two screws below the cold water tank. These screws are located in two indentations in the base of the brewing system.

  4. Remove the connection access plate, located on the opposite side of the brewing system from the two screws you just removed.

  5. Locate the connector cover on the side of the brewer. Remove the screw holding it in place.

  6. Remove the connector cover. This will expose the direct plumb kit interface connector.

  7. Connect the wires from the direct plumb kit and cold water tank to the brewer system body. The connection consists of two small wires, one red and one black.

  8. Install the direct plumb kit and screw it into the base of the brewing system with the two screws that held the connection access plate in place.

  9. Return the brewing system to an upright position and connect the brewing system to the AC power and water supplies.
