How to Make a Gimlet
The gimlet, a classic cocktail, was typically made with gin until the early 1990s, when vodka gimlets became popular. You can use whichever liquor you prefer. Some people also prefer to use lime juice cordial, a mixture of concentrated lime juice and sugar, instead of plain lime juice, creating a sweeter drink. Experiment with different ingredients and concentrations until you find the ideal mixture for you.
Things You'll Need
- Cocktail shaker
- Cocktail strainer
- Martini glass
- 1 tbsp. lime juice
- 4 tbsp. gin or vodka
- Ice cubes
- Fresh lime slice for garnish
Instructions
-
Chill the martini glass by placing it in the freezer or filling it with ice.
-
Fill the cocktail shaker three-fourths full with ice cubes; add the lime juice and vodka or gin.
-
Close the cocktail shaker and shake vigorously until icy condensation appears on the shaker or the mixture inside appears frothy.
-
Remove the martini glass from the freezer or remove the ice from the glass. Use the cocktail strainer to pour the contents of the shaker into the glass.
-
Garnish the glass with a slice of fresh lime.
