How to Make the Perfect Brandy Manhattan (4 Steps)

The Manhattan is a classic cocktail created by a wealthy New York socialist during the 1876 presidential campaign. The drink became the talk of the town, and mixologists soon created several variations on the basic blend, including the original Manhattan, the Italian Manhattan and the perfect Manhattan. Regardless of what the name suggests, a perfect drink refers to any cocktail that uses both dry and sweet vermouth.

Things You'll Need

  • Cocktail glass
  • Ice
  • Brandy
  • Sweet vermouth
  • Dry vermouth
  • Cherry
  • Cherry juice (optional)

Instructions

  1. Place several ice cubes in a cocktail glass and pour brandy over the ice. As a general rule, one cocktail contains about 2 ounces of brandy.

  2. Add equal parts sweet and dry vermouth to the cocktail. The total amount of vermouth should be about one-quarter the amount of brandy.

  3. Add a small amount of bitters, which gives aroma and flavor to the cocktail.

  4. Stir the mixture to blend the ingredients, then pour it into a chilled cocktail glass and garnish the drink with a maraschino cherry. To give the drink a rosy color, you can add a few drops of cherry juice.
