Is ack Daniel is a bourbon whiskey?
Jack Daniel's is a Tennessee Whiskey, not a Bourbon.
While Jack Daniel's is often referred to as a Bourbon, it does not meet the legal requirements to be classified as such. Bourbon must be made from at least 51% corn, must be aged in new charred oak barrels, and must be produced in the United States. Jack Daniel's, on the other hand, is made from a mash bill of 80% corn, 12% malted barley, and 8% rye. It is also aged in used oak barrels, not new charred oak barrels. And while it is produced in the United States, it is not produced in Kentucky, which is the state most closely associated with Bourbon production.
So, while Jack Daniel's is a delicious and iconic American whiskey, it is not a Bourbon.
