How prepare for pizza?
Ingredients for Pizza Dough (Makes 2 pizzas)
- 3 cups / 420g all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon / 5g instant dry yeast
- 1 teaspoon / 5g salt
- 1 1/2 cups / 350ml warm water (110-115°F / 43-46°C)
- 2 tablespoons / 28g extra-virgin olive oil, plus more for greasing the bowl
Instructions for Pizza Dough:
1. Prep: In a large mixing bowl or the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the dough hook, whisk together the flour, yeast, and salt.
2. Add Water: Gradually add the warm water to the dry ingredients while stirring. It's best to use a rubber spatula or wooden spoon for initial mixing.
3. Form Dough: Once all the water is incorporated, start mixing the dough with your hands. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
4. Oil and Rise: Place the dough back into the clean mixing bowl, drizzle it with about a tablespoon of olive oil, and turn the dough to coat it. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let the dough rise in a warm place for about an hour or until it doubles in size.
Ingredients for Pizza Sauce (Makes enough for 2 pizzas)
- 2 tablespoons / 30ml extra-virgin olive oil
- 1 small yellow onion, finely diced
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 (28oz / 800g) can of diced tomatoes (with their juice)
- 1 teaspoon / 2g dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon / 2g dried basil
- 1/4 teaspoon / 1g red pepper flakes (more or less to taste)
- 1 teaspoon / 5g salt
- Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
Instructions for Pizza Sauce:
1. Sauté Onions: In a medium saucepan over medium heat, warm the olive oil. Add the diced onions and cook for 3-4 minutes, or until they soften.
2. Add Garlic and Tomato: Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant. Then add the diced tomatoes with their juice.
3. Season and Simmer: Add oregano, basil, red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper. Stir well, bring to a simmer, and cook for about 15 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly. Set aside.
Assembling and Baking the Pizzas:
1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to the highest temperature (usually around 475-500°F / 246-260°C).
2. Divide and Roll: Divide the risen dough into 2 equal parts. On a lightly floured surface, roll each part into a 12-inch / 30cm round pizza crust.
3. Transfer to Pan: Place each dough round onto a greased baking sheet or pizza pan.
4. Add Sauce and Toppings: Spread a thin layer of pizza sauce on each pizza crust, leaving about 1/2 inch (1.5 cm) of crust without sauce. Add your desired toppings (shredded mozzarella cheese, pepperoni, vegetables, etc.).
5. Bake: Bake the pizzas in the preheated oven for 10-14 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
6. Cool Slightly and Enjoy: Remove the pizzas from the oven and let them cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
