How do you freeze pomegranate arils?
To freeze pomegranate arils, you will need:
- Fresh pomegranates
- A knife or paring knife
- A cutting board
- A sheet pan
- Freezer-safe containers
- Optional: parchment paper
INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Prepare Pomegranates: Cut the pomegranates in half, being careful to avoid cutting yourself. Separate the arils from the membranes by using your fingers to gently break apart the fruit inside the bowl of water.
2. Drain Arils: Drain the arils and spread them out on paper towels to absorb any excess water. Let the arils dry for a few minutes.
3. Freeze: Spread the arils in a single layer on a parchment paper-lined sheet pan. Place the sheet pan in the freezer for at least 4-5 hours, or overnight, or until the arils are frozen.
4. Store: Transfer the frozen arils to freezer-safe containers and seal tightly. Label the containers with the date and contents.
When you're ready to use your frozen pomegranate arils, simply take them out of the freezer and let them thaw at room temperature for a few minutes before using them.
Frozen pomegranate arils can be used in smoothies, oatmeal, yogurt, salads, and desserts or enjoyed as a healthy snack straight out of the freezer!
