Can you make sour cream from fresh cream?
Ingredients
* 1 cup heavy cream
* 1/4 cup buttermilk
Instructions
1. In a medium saucepan, bring the heavy cream to a simmer over medium heat.
2. Remove the saucepan from the heat and let it cool for 5 minutes.
3. Stir in the buttermilk and mix well.
4. Cover the saucepan with a lid and let it sit at room temperature for 8-12 hours, or until the cream has thickened and soured.
5. Refrigerate the sour cream for at least 4 hours before using.
Tips
* To make sure that the sour cream thickens properly, use fresh buttermilk and heavy cream.
* If you don't have buttermilk on hand, you can make your own by adding 1 tablespoon of lemon juice or white vinegar to 1 cup of milk and letting it sit at room temperature for 10 minutes.
* You can also add flavorings to your sour cream, such as herbs, spices, or fruit.
* Sour cream will keep for up to 2 weeks in the refrigerator.
