How to Cook a Fruit Cobbler in the Microwave (3 Steps)
Fruit cobblers are easy-to-make, versatile desserts, surely to delight lovers of fruit. While oven-baking is the traditional way to make a cobbler, when you're short on time, a microwave works well, too. With a microwave, you can serve up your piping hot cobbler, literally in a matter of minutes.
Things You'll Need
- sliced or chopped fruit
- brown sugar
- flour
- rolled oats
- cinnamon
- nutmeg
- softened butter
- powdered sugar
- milk (optional)
- mixing bowl
- wooden spoon
- microwave safe baking pan
Instructions
-
Chop or slice your fruit and mix with powdered sugar to sweeten. Powdered sugar has a bit of cornstarch, which is good for thickening. Quantities of fruit don't matter as long as you adjust the amount of topping accordingly. You'll want to have enough fruit to fill a microwave-safe baking pan about half full. Mix and match fruits in any quantities or combinations you wish. For example, apples or bananas go well with all kinds of berries, as do peaches and nectarines.
-
Create your topping next. You can make either a crumble topping or a cake-like topping. For a crumble topping, mix rolled oats in a bowl with brown sugar, a little flour and spices, like cinnamon and nutmeg, to taste. Add softened butter. Work the butter into the oats mixture either using clean fingers or a fork, until it is crumbly and evenly combined. To make a cake-like topping instead, combine flour, powdered sugar and a small amount of baking powder in a mixing bowl. Add softened butter and milk, and then mix well. You can adjust the ingredients by judging the texture of the dough. If it seems overly soft, add a bit more flour/sugar, and if it's too stiff, just add a bit more milk.
-
Assemble and bake your fruit cobbler. Layer your fruit in the bottom of a microwave-safe baking pan, and then add the topping of your choice to the fruit. You can sprinkle the crumble topping over the fruit with clean hands, but if you opt for the cake topping, use a wooden spoon. Don't go too heavy on the topping. Microwave the cobbler for about two minutes on high. Check to see if it's bubbling hot throughout; if not, cook on high for another minute or so. Remove the cobbler when it's done, let it rest for a few minutes, and then serve with whipped cream or ice cream on top.
