Pairing With Coffee Ice Cream

Coffee ice cream bridges the gap between a childish sweet tooth and an adult affectation. Coffee ice cream's latte-like flavor has just the right amount of creamy sweetness, coupled with the bite of black coffee. Add a scoop of coffee ice cream to drinks and desserts for a jolt of flavor without the caffeine-induced consequences.

Doubled Desserts

  • Coffee ice cream is a perfect accompaniment to other desserts, especially cakes and pies. The best pairings will include flavors that complement one another. Top a slice of devil's food cake with a scoop of coffee ice cream for a rich and delicious treat, or place a scoop alongside a slice of mint-chocolate chip icebox pie. Coffee ice cream also pairs well with individual treats, such as brownies, cookies and even puffed rice treats.

Cherries on Top

  • The flavors of coffee ice cream go well with a number of toppings, some ordinary and some not so ordinary. Easy toppings include crushed sandwich cookies, either chocolate or vanilla, as well as other chocolaty cookies. For something different, combine the ice cream with strawberry slices and balsamic vinegar or glazed pecans and maple syrup. Some spices can heat up a scoop of coffee ice cream -- add ground cinnamon, nutmeg or ginger, a stick of cinnamon or some candied ginger.

For Adults Only

  • Scoop coffee ice cream into mixed drinks and cocktails for creamy flavor. Substitute it for other drink ingredients, such as other flavors of ice cream, milk or cream. Mix in a scoop with equal parts vodka and coffee liqueur for a creamy white Russian, or top a few scoops with chocolate liqueur, whiskey or flavored vodka for a sinful snack. Other boozy coffee ice cream drinks include a mudslide with hazelnut liqueur, a coffee eggnog punch and a caramel pumpkin pie milkshake.

Shake It Up

  • An coffee ice cream option that's appropriate for all ages is a milkshake. Shakes with coffee ice cream have flavors similar to iced or frozen lattes. Add sauces, such as caramel or chocolate; fruits, such as dates or strawberries; cookies; and candies to add flavor and up the sugar content. Some good flavor combinations include coffee ice cream, chocolate milk and slice bananas, and coffee ice cream, whole milk, caramel syrup, whipped cream and chocolate sprinkles.
