What was the first chocolate chip cookie called?

The first chocolate chip cookie wasn't given a specific name. It was created by Ruth Wakefield, a chef at the Toll House Inn in Whitman, Massachusetts, in 1930. She intended to make a chocolate cookie, but ran out of baker's chocolate. She decided to substitute semi-sweet chocolate pieces, expecting them to melt and create a chocolate-swirled cookie. However, the chips retained their shape, creating the first chocolate chip cookie.

It wasn't until 1938, when Wakefield published the recipe in her cookbook, "Toll House Tried and True Recipes," that the cookie became widely popular and known as "Toll House Cookies."
