How to Add Flour to Cookie Dough (3 Steps)
Overly wet cookie dough can lead to the predictable result: soggy cookies that do not bake thoroughly in the middle and do not become as evenly crisp as you might wish before they begin to burn. Most recipe writers take this into account and design the recipes with proportions that ensure the cookie dough has just the right amount of liquid. If you made dough without a recipe, accidentally added too much liquid, or have found that your dough is too wet despite following the recipe exactly, add more flour to bring it to your desired consistency. If you precisely followed a recipe, however, bake one test cookie before you do this; some cookie dough is intentionally wetter than you might expect.
Things You'll Need
- Forks or other utensils, optional
Instructions
-
Sprinkle a small amount of flour over the cookie dough. Use only a little -- about 1/2 tsp. for a typical batch of cookies -- to make sure you do not add too much and accidentally make your cookie dough too dry and floury. Tailor the amount you add to suit the amount of dough you are working with. You can add more for a large batch of dough, or less if you are making only a few cookies.
-
Mix the flour into the cookie dough. You can knead it into the dough by hand or use forks or other utensils. Do not over-mix the dough, however; mix it just enough to blend the flour into the dough.
-
Observe the dampness of the dough as you mix it. If it is still too wet for your liking, repeat this process. Do not get impatient and add a lot of flour at once. Instead, add only a small amount at a time until the dough reaches the consistency you're looking for.
