Who invented oatcakes?
Oatcakes are flat unleavened cakes made of oatmeal, salt and water. They were first made by the Romans and were common throughout Europe. In Scotland, oatcakes or 'bread' were the everyday bread of the ordinary people, and were baked on special girdle stoves.
