Does candy have a reaction to Coke?
When certain candies are dropped into Coca-Cola, they erupt into a geyser-like eruption. The eruption is caused by the reaction between the sugar in the candy and the carbonic acid in the Coke. The reaction produces carbon dioxide gas, which causes the eruption.
Not all candies will erupt in Coke. The candy must have a high enough concentration of sugar in order to produce enough carbon dioxide gas to create an eruption. Some of the candies that are known to erupt in Coke include:
* Mentos
* Life Savers
* Jolly Ranchers
* Starburst
* Skittles
The eruption can be even more dramatic if the Coke is warm or if the candy is added to the Coke quickly.
The eruption of candy in Coke is a fun and harmless experiment. It is a great way to learn about the chemical reaction between sugar and carbonic acid.
