Why are cakes wet in middle?
Reasons for a cake being wet in the middle:
- Incorrect Measuring: If you add an excess amount of liquid ingredients to the cake then the cake will come out wet and sticky.
- Wrong Baking Time: If the cake is not cooked for the right amount of time then it will not fully set and will remain moist and wet.
- Incorrect Amount of Leavening: If too little leavening is used, the cake will not rise and will be dense.
- Dense Batter: A dense batter can prevent heat from circulating properly, which can lead to a wet middle.
- Oven Temperature: If the oven temperature is too low, the cake may not cook through and can come out wet. Make sure your oven is preheated and properly calibrated.
- Unopened Cooling Rack: Not having an open cooling rack can trap steam as the cake cools. When your bake is done, open the oven door slightly and let your cake cool for 5 minutes before transferring to a cooling rack. This will help it release steam.
