How to Make Pure White Buttercream Frosting (4 Steps)

This frosting recipe is perfect for any type of cake. This recipe makes enough for a three-tier cake plus decorations. Food coloring blends really well with this frosting if you'd like to make colored frosting instead of pure white.

Things You'll Need

  • Large mixing bowl
  • Mixer
  • 2 lbs. sifted powdered sugar
  • 1 1/4 c. vegetable shortening
  • 1/2 c. cool water
  • 2 tbsp. corn syrup
  • 2 tsp. clear vanilla extract
  • 2 tsp. butter flavor
  • 1 tsp. salt

Instructions

  1. Cream the salt and the shortening together in a large mixing bowl until smooth.

  2. Add the sugar one cup at a time, mixing after each cup.

  3. Add the vanilla and butter extracts and mix well.

  4. Slowly add the water and corn syrup as you mix. Beat on high speed for about 20 minutes then beat on low for two more minutes.
