Things You'll Need

  • 4 ounces semisweet chocolate
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 3/4 cup white sugar
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

    • 1

Preheat oven to 300 F. Grease an 8-inch cake pan or muffin tins and then dust with cocoa powder.

    • 2

Chop the chocolate into pieces and melt it with the butter in the top of a double boiler over lightly simmering water. If you don't have a double boiler, melt the chocolate and butter in a saucepan over low heat, taking care not to overcook the chocolate.

    • 3

Remove the chocolate from the heat and stir in the sugar, cocoa powder, eggs and vanilla. Pour into the prepared pan.

    • 4

Bake 30 minutes. Let the cake cool in the pan 10 minutes and then turn it out onto a wire rack and finish cooling completely.
