How to Freeze Cupcakes (5 Steps)
Cupcakes, like whole cakes, store well in the freezer. Air is the enemy of cupcakes stored in the freezer, as it leads to the cupcake drying out and freezer odors getting into the cake, according to "The Cake Bible." Freezing the cupcakes unwrapped allows the icing to harden, preventing it from sticking to the overwrap. Your cupcakes will remain fresh in the freezer for two to three months.
Things You'll Need
- Plastic wrap
- Heavy duty aluminum foil
Instructions
-
Freeze the cupcakes uncovered for one hour to harden the icing. Skip this step if freezing unfrosted cupcakes.
-
Tightly wrap each cupcake with plastic wrap.
-
Cover each plastic wrapped cupcake with heavy duty aluminum foil.
-
Return the cupcakes to the freezer for up to three months.
-
Unwrap the cupcakes and defrost overnight in the refrigerator in a covered container. Leave unfrosted cupcakes in the plastic wrap and aluminum foil wrappings to defrost in the refrigerator overnight.
