How to Add Sprinkles to Cake Mix
One way to make a plain cake more exciting is to add sprinkles to the cake batter. The sprinkles dissolve as they bake, leaving behind colored spots in the finished cake, which is sometimes referred to as a confetti cake. You can add sprinkles to any type of cake mix, although they show up best in a light-colored cake. Try red sprinkles in a pink cake for Valentine's Day, red and blue sprinkles in a white cake for the 4th of July or multicolored sprinkles in a white or yellow cake for a birthday party.
Things You'll Need
- Cake pans
- Cake mix
- Mixing bowl
- Wooden spoon
- 1/4 cup sprinkles (also called jimmies)
Instructions
-
Grease the cake pan or pans. Set them on the counter next to you.
-
Prepare the cake mix as directed on the package.
-
Pour 1/4 cup of candy sprinkles into the cake batter. Choose a color of sprinkles that will stand out against the color of the cake. You can use more than one color if you like.
-
Fold the sprinkles into the batter with a few quick strokes of the wooden spoon.
-
Pour the batter into the cake pan immediately. If you are too slow, the color of the sprinkles will begin bleeding into the batter and create streaks.
-
Bake the cake according to the package directions.
