How to Get Ice Cream Cakes Out of the Pan (3 Steps)
Ice cream cakes can be labor-intensive enough without having to worry about chiseling it out of the cake pan as party guests await. In fact, your first step when making one of these crowd-pleasing desserts should be preparing your pan so that removal is a snap. In a pinch, a little warm water may do the trick -- but tread carefully, as too much heat will leave you with a sticky mess.
Things You'll Need
- Wax paper, parchment paper, plastic wrap or aluminum foil
- Springform pan (optional)
Instructions
-
Line the inside of your cake pan with wax paper, parchment paper, plastic wrap or aluminum foil, leaving an inch or two of overhang on all sides. If using a round cake pan, plastic wrap is best as it can mold to the shape of the pan more easily. Using a springform pan will make removal of the ice cream cake even easier, but be sure to line it with plastic wrap as well.
-
Build your cake inside the lined cake pan. Cakes with a bottom crust, such as cookie crumb, are easier to remove from the pan as they provide a solid foundation and stability for the other layers. Keep the cake in the freezer until ready to serve.
-
When you're ready to remove the cake, simply grasp two sides of the liner and lift the cake out of the pan. If using a springform pan, release and remove the ring.
