Where is pepper found?
Black pepper (Piper nigrum) is a flowering vine in the family Piperaceae, cultivated for its fruit, which is usually dried and used as a spice. When dried, the fruit is known as a peppercorn.
Black pepper is native to South India, and it is grown in tropical regions around the world. Major producers of black pepper include India, Vietnam, Brazil, and Indonesia.
White pepper is made from fully ripe peppercorns that have been soaked in water and then the outer layer of the fruit is removed, leaving the white inner seed.
Green pepper is made from unripe peppercorns that have been preserved in brine or dried.
Pink pepper is not true pepper, but rather the berry of the Brazilian pepper tree (Schinus terebinthifolia).
