Uses of Molasses Powder
Molasses powder is made from pure molasses. The liquid molasses is converted to a free-flowing powder, which maintains a full molasses flavor. This powder is a convenient spice and flavoring when liquid molasses may be difficult to use. It also allows the user to control the molasses flavor intensity without worrying about adding liquid to a recipe.
Molasses Substitute
-
Molasses powder can be reconstituted to use in place of traditional molasses. Adding water and sugar to the molasses powder will allow you to use it like regular molasses.
Rubs and Seasoning Mixes
-
Molasses powder is often used in dry spice rubs and seasoning mixes to add the rich flavor of molasses without introducing the liquid form. This is especially popular for barbecue and grill meats.
Baking
-
Molasses powder can be used in baking recipes when molasses flavor is desired but added liquid would not work in the recipe. It can also be used to create molasses-flavored dry baking mixes, which are prepackage to be combined with wet ingredients later. Molasses powder is commonly used in cookies, cakes and glazes.
Animal Feed
-
Molasses powder is often mixed into animal feed to encourage farm animals to eat a less desirable feed or to help introduce a new feed. It may also be used to get picky animals to eat more of their feed.
