What Kind of Spices Are Good in Beef Broth?
When it comes to beef broth and spices, many combinations are possible. Beef broth is made by simmering any kind of beef, as well as additional ingredients, in water. The hearty broth has a general beefy taste that pairs well with almost any spice. From mild to fiery, the best choice depends on the exact flavor you want. Add the spices as you cook the broth or after it’s made, depending on how you want the seasonings to blend in. The key is to taste the broth as you go, adding a sprinkle of spice at a time, to prevent ruining the overall flavor.
Mild Spices
-
Mild spices add a whisper of flavor to beef broth. Dust the broth with sweet paprika for a little sweetness or go for a spicy sweet with ground cardamom. Bring some tang to your broth with lemon pepper. Sprinkle the broth with roasted garlic powder for a woodsy twist. Add a hint of complex flavor with some yellow curry powder mixed into the liquid. Use Anaheim chili pepper powder for a trace of bite.
Medium Spices
-
The right medium-heat seasonings bring a spicy background flavor to your broth without burning your tongue off. Mix ancho chili pepper powder and garlic powder into the broth for an undercurrent of heat. Dust the beef broth with smoked chipotle pepper and smoked paprika for an earthy taste. Try a classic flavor with medium chili powder, onion powder and garlic powder.
Hot Spices
-
Hot seasonings add some sizzle to your beef broth. Sprinkle the broth with red and black pepper for a simple touch. Stir ginger powder, ground turmeric, garlic powder, red pepper and cumin into the broth to create a robust flavor. Go for some flame by adding red curry powder to the liquid. Try an exotic taste by using ground allspice, ground cloves, ground coriander seed and hot chili powder.
Fiery Spices
-
Fiery seasonings ensure your taste buds are awake to appreciate the broth. Sprinkle cayenne pepper, onion powder, garlic powder and black pepper into the broth for a Cajun-style taste. Add a sharp bite with red pepper, hot paprika, cumin and celery seed. Mix hot chili powder, cayenne pepper, smoked chipotle pepper, ancho chili pepper and smoked paprika to create a broth with a smoky fire.
