What do fetuses eat while in the womb?
Fetuses do not eat while in the womb. They receive nourishment through the placenta, a specialized organ that develops during pregnancy and connects the mother's bloodstream to the fetus's bloodstream. The placenta allows oxygen, nutrients (such as glucose and amino acids), and hormones to pass from the mother to the fetus, and also removes waste products from the fetus. The fetus absorbs these nutrients and uses them for growth and development.
